Kickstarter Campaign: Day Sixteen – Look at this morose motherfucker right here.

$11,438 : 221

The title of this post is taken from Chasing Amy. Far and away my favorite Kevin Smith film. Seriously, it all came together for him in that movie. The dialogue, the story, the comic references, Affleck’s acting. It was perfect. The ending kinda went a bit awry but god damn I love that movie.

I thought of it because as I sat down to write today’s recap I realized that these updates keep sounding like me saying “not good enough, not enough this, not enough that” and who wants to hear that shit? I don’t. You don’t. So I’ll stop. Seriously.

One of the blog posts I had been working on for another site which I can’t seem to remember at this moment was finished. Finally. Now I have to write the exact same thing for a different site.

An old friend contacted me about a possible investor today. Not a backer, an investor. This person might actually contribute funds, not to the Kickstarter, but to the film production.

What’s the difference?

Kickstarter backers are not investors. Sure they’re investing in my dreams and film, but they own no equity in the film. If by some miracle this movie became “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” no one who backed the project would see a dime outside of their selected reward. Actually they’d see no dime from their reward either as “dimes” aren’t a reward. Why? Because crowd investing was illegal when Kickstarter was born. It’s now legal, but Kickstarter has shown no interest in adopting that model.

So the odds of attracting any heavy hitters for a film are pretty slim because someone giving you $10,000 just to see his name under “Executive Producer” is most likely not going to happen. That person is going to want a stake in the film.

So we might have someone like that. More to come next week on that.

The Red Eye apparently decided not to mention the campaign, but it was nice speaking to the reporter. She was nice and she’s actually ridden every single CTA bus/train in the city. That’s really cool.

Congratulations to the USA woman’s gymnastics team for winning the gold.

Day Seventeen tomorrow.
